As far back as I can remember, I've always had an unusual fear of down time. And not in the 21st century hyper-connected FOMO kind of way. Really, I can give two shits about what you are doing at 11:37 p.m. on a Tuesday evening. (Sorry, friends.) It's more of an Aristotelian curiosity that drives this fear, a desire to maximize my time spent on this gaseous sphere, to acquire and dispense knowledge in such a way that I become more like an algebra equation than a human being.
With that sort of curiosity comes a desire to constantly get my hands dirty and mix it up, to leave every corner of the earth I touch a better place than how I found it (well, a more interesting one) while extracting as much as I can from any given circumstance to become a more complete person as I march toward the great unknown (whether that is 10 years or 10 minutes from now). While it's fairly straightforward to get my side of the equation in order, it's not always as easy to solve for "x".
And with that, assuming some of you actually enjoy this newsletter, an apology for my inactivity over the last three weeks. From the introduction to this week's edition, you may think that I'd blame it on being too busy--just running around, nonstop. Making paper, dispensing with paper. Rinse and repeat. Big tymin.
But really, I was just having difficulty solving for "x".
As you are probably very aware, I have strong opinions, most of which I am not afraid to express in the public domain no matter how controversial or unpopular. Hell, that's probably why half of you subscribed to this in the first place. However, and I'm just being honest here, sometimes it's difficult to sit down and crank out these missives when 1. you are feeling uninspired, 2. daily monotony gets in the way and 3. you feel an urge to write about literally everything and anything other than that which your newsletter is supposed to cover (fashion, remember...).
So, I came up with an idea. Let's make this interactive. Dating back to my ol' Tumblr days, I always enjoyed answering followers' questions. At its height, I probably answered two questions each day. I did this for probably just over a year. Hundreds of questions, hundreds of answers. And while there remain a few hundred left in that inbox, they are quite stale, so it's infinitely more topical and interesting to start anew.
Moving forward, I encourage you to send me thought starters, questions and comments. Marketing exec looking for a little free consumer or product intel? Sure. Fashion designer in need of some inspiration? Fire away. Friend who wants to hear me ramble about how Jake Plummer is one of the most underrated and misunderstood quarterbacks in NFL history. Let's go.
And with that, I'm out. Have a great holiday, and fire me some questions so we can get this party started.
